PC gaming is huge, and equally large is the number of games on offer. There are numerous genres to play in, and within each one there are literally hundreds of games from which to choose. This can make it a rather hard task to pick out the good games from the bad. We’re here to make your life a little bit easier, so today we will outline a number of the top, must-play war games that are currently available right now.
This War of Mine
Of course there are the obvious war games like Counter-Strike and Call of Duty, the popularity of both will never fade, but we have decided to outline a few of the lesser known war games that don’t necessarily focus so much on the war, but rather use it as a backdrop for some excellent gameplay. This War of Mine is based on the Bosnian War, specifically in Sarajevo. Players are given a cross section of buildings with citizens trying to survive within. Players organize their lives, helping them to survive by creating useful items, and at night sending them out to scavenge for food and other necessities. As such it is not a war game in that the player has no influence over the war and cannot win it, but rather the aim is to survive through it. It might not be as fun as a mass shooting game, but it does allow a pause for thought.
DICE’s game takes an unprecedented step into the First World War for this one. Set firmly on the battlefield (as the name suggests), the single player mission offers six separate war stories, each told by a different soldier, and includes a British chauffeur, an aviator, and even a lady! These don’t last very long and can be completed within an hour or two, and they aren’t just about killing. The main mission, though, is one that outlines how many people have suffered and died. Each time the player dies, they then take the place of another soldier within that battle. The multiplayer game is more formatted than, and not quite as intense, as the single player sections.
